Only a seasoned Google AdWords pro can appreciate the enormous difference that very small things make in your Google ads.

You've got 120 characters of space to work with, and *every* one of those characters matter. Every single one.

Case in point: Here's a pair of actual Google ads and their stats:

    Ad #1:
How to Write a Book Fast 14 Days from Start to Finish Unique, Step By Step Program Write-A-Book-Faster.com CTR: 4.1%

    Ad #2:
How to Write a Book, Fast 14 Days from Start to Finish Unique, Step By Step Program Write-A-Book-Faster.com CTR 4.4%

4.1% vs. 4.4%. What's the difference between the two ads?

If you look real close, you see the only difference is ONE COMMA. That's it.

"How to Write a Book, Fast" out-pulls "How to Write a Book Fast" by eight percent. In one year that silly little comma saved me about $500.00 - because Google rewards you for writing ads that get clicked on.

2 Why is it that Google stubbornly refuses to tell people how to 'make them happy'?

When Google Slap happened a few months ago, there were a lot of people who woke up one morning to the news that their 27 cent keywords were now pegged at ten bucks.

The fun part was, Google reps wouldn't even tell them how to fix it.

Why does Google play those games?

Same reason they don't stick up a sign at the casinos in Vegas telling you which slot machine is gonna cough up the coins next.

Same reason the guy at the finance company doesn't explain in excruciating detail how to improve your credit score so he can help you shave a few points off your car loan.

Plus if you were paying 27 cents before, then compared to $10.00 a click, 50 cents suddenly seems kind of OK.

Right?

It's to their advantage to be opaque. It keeps the chips securely on their side of the table. As long as you don't know the rules, you're an easy mark. They can vacuum out your wallet with impunity.

Recently I was discussing this with a respected business acquaintance and he offered this point of view. "Paul, I think it works like this.... you're always going to have a job as long as Google doesn't understand that they really make more money by helping their advertisers make more money. But if they ever do 'get it', you might be in for tough sledding."

I replied that direct marketing is a sport mastered only by those who spend their own money on advertising. People who spend other peoples' money cannot, by definition, fully grasp how to play this game.

Which means that even if Google ever DOES grasp this (and I'm sure there's probably a few people in Google-land who do know it should be win-win), it's still fundamentally impossible for a bunch of Google employees to teach entrepreneurs how to profit from their system.

Because only an entrepreneur can teach the art of this to another entrepreneur. I spend my own money in this game, just like you spend yours. That's why I can teach it. That's why my hunches are usually correct.

There are some things you can only learn from experience. Some courses only offered in The University of Hard Knocks. Only true warriors walk out of that school with a diploma.

My acquaintance and I spend our own money buying clicks and we know the corridors & underground tunnels at the school of hard knocks well. If you're ready to join us, start by getting the FREE 5 DAY marketing course. Armed with the interesting but basic facts contained in this course you can go forward with confidence. However, as Winston Churchill said after the battle of El Alamein. "This is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning."
